Australia’s Largest Domestic Ticketed Motorsport Event Adopts The GEH2 Hydrogen Generator
15th Nov 2024
Blue Diamond Machinery is proud to help power the 2024 VAILO Adelaide 500 with our GEH2 Hydrogen Generator.
Now in its 25th year, the 2024 VAILO Adelaide 500 is Australia’s largest domestic ticketed motorsport event. It includes many events over an action-packed weekend, such as driver autograph sessions, exotic vehicle displays, sideshows, family entertainment and more.
This year, the event will incorporate clean energy technology for the Adelaide Street Circuit, with several EODev GEH2 Hydrogen Generators powering some of the event screens and a new ‘Hydrogen Hub’. This is thanks to a new collaboration between event organisers, the Office of Hydrogen Power South Australia, Toyota Australia and Blue Diamond Machinery.
“Blue Diamond Machinery, in conjunction with our partner Toyota Australia, are thrilled to be working with the VAILO Adelaide 500 to bring our GEH2 to South Australia,” says Justin Pitts, Director at Blue Diamond Machinery.
The GEH2 Hydrogen Generator delivers 80kW of power without CO2 emissions, particulate matter or noise, only emitting water and a little vapour. It is a completely clean, consistent alternative for almost any application that would otherwise rely on a 100kVA diesel generator.

The VAILO Adelaide 500 is South Australia’s largest event to utilise hydrogen generators, representing a significant milestone for the industry. As VAILO Adelaide 500 Chief Executive Mark Warren noted “The South Australian Motor Sport Board is excited by this collaboration, to be a leader in this field…”.
This activation demonstrates the potential of hydrogen as a replacement for diesel in the events sector.
“...The VAILO Adelaide 500 is an incredible opportunity to showcase hydrogen technology in action, demonstrating how it can deliver zero-emission power at scale and engage this audience with the future of clean technology” says Sam Crafter, Chief Executive of the Office of Hydrogen Power SA.
The event’s ‘Hydrogen Hub’ will be powered by 100% green South Australian hydrogen, locally sourced for the first time from Tonsley Park with BOC’s support in storage and transportation.
The interactive activation aims to help educate event attendees on how renewable hydrogen is made, why South Australia is uniquely positioned to lead its production and to showcase jobs and vast opportunities emerging within this growing industry.

Justin Pitts noted the significance of South Australia’s hydrogen infrastructure investment;
“South Australia’s investment in the development of Green Hydrogen production means using our zero emission generators will become more viable than in many other parts of the country…allowing for a significant reduction of CO2 emissions in the events and construction sectors” he says.
Blue Diamond Machinery look forward to contributing towards events and community organisations in the local community in the future. We offer a range of low and zero emission technologies to help the events sector decarbonise and meet their CO2 reduction targets.
