Powering The Maryborough Energy Breakthrough Event With The GEH2

Blue Diamond Machinery was proud to help power the 2023 Energy Breakthrough Event in Maryborough, Victoria with our GEH2 Hydrogen generator.

The annual event, now in its 33rd year, provides opportunities for students, teachers, parents and local industries to come together and form collaborative partnerships. Teams work together to design and construct a vehicle, machine or innovation in technology that represents an ‘energy breakthrough’.

An energy breakthrough in its own right, the GEH2 uses hydrogen, a Toyota fuel cell and lithium-ion battery to produce 100kVA of clean, quiet and instant power.

“[The GEH2] is a perfect, carbon-free solution for [power] generation in public spaces. They make no noise and have no pollutants”, said Aaron Regan, Tech Services at Net Zero Equipment.

Throughout the 5 day event, the GEH2 powered the volunteer catering tents, which included running food steamers and cool rooms without noise, harmful diesel exhaust or CO2 emissions. The only output from the GEH2 is a little hot water and filtered air, making it a safe, practical power solution for events like the Energy Breakthrough.

“There’s no noise whatsoever, which is incredible [and] no emissions, which is a great step in our path towards reducing our carbon imprint”, says Energy Breakthrough volunteer, Les.

The Energy Breakthrough Event encourages participants to explore and use the latest technology while considering its impact on the environment and the way people live. As such, deploying the GEH2 as a replacement for diesel generators or mains electricity strongly aligns with the philosophy of the event.

Joel Driscoll, Senior Energy Solutions Specialist at Blue Diamond notes that trialling hydrogen generators like the GEH2 is a step in the right direction for the events industry.

“There’s a lot of feedback that a lot of event goers these days...want to know what events are doing to try and decarbonise and reduce their carbon footprint”, he says.

Opting for clean power solutions like the GEH2 at events like the Energy Breakthrough is a great way for the event organisers to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Attracting in excess of 7,000 people, the Energy Breakthrough Event brings tourism, economic and social benefits to regional Victoria. Their amazing work would not be possible without the support of sponsors and volunteers like the Carisbrook Lions Club and Blue Diamond Machinery.

Blue Diamond Machinery look forward to contributing towards events and community organisations in the local community in the future. We offer a range of low and zero emission technologies to help the events sector decarbonise and meet their CO2 reduction targets.
