Blue Diamond Machinery and Perusahann Listrik Negara (PLN) are conducting a 12 month trial of 3 GEH2 Hydrogen Generators for various applications across Indonesia.

PLN is a leading utility service provider in Indonesia, supplying the majority of the country's electricity.

In preparation for the trial, the Blue Diamond Machinery team, with the support of Toyota Motor Corporation Australia (TMCA), spent a week in Jakarta training PLN technicians and commissioning the GEH2.

"It was humbling to be setting up one of our GEH2 Hydrogen Generators in the shadow of a 300MW gas power plant.", says Tristan Yuswak, head of future fuels at Blue Diamond Machinery. "The scale, professionalism and determination of PLN Indonesia Power was impressive", he says.

Producing 80kW of clean, silent power, the GEH2 works seamlessly in any application that would otherwise require a 100kVA diesel generator. It combines a Toyota fuel cell and lithium-ion battery to supply power for construction, industrial, events and mining applications without greenhouse gases, pollutants or noise.

The only by-product is water and heat, making the GEH2 a great solution for companies like PLN looking to reduce emissions throughout their supply chain.

PLN are striving for a 52% renewable energy capacity and net zero emissions by 2060. Trailing the GEH2 reflects their commitment to Indonesia’s sustainable energy transition and mitigating climate change impacts.

By incorporating clean power solutions like the GEH2, PLN exhibit their commitment to an energy strategy that balances emission reduction, operational reliability and financial sustainability.

Green hydrogen infrastructure in Indonesia will ramp up from 2031 and increase rapidly beyond 2050, meaning hydrogen will eventually become more feasible than diesel for power generation.

"We are honoured to have had the chance to showcase our Zero Emission GEH2 Hydrogen Generators in Jakarta. PLN’s forward-thinking strategies to utilize hydrogen to reduce CO2 emissions throughout Indonesia are truly innovative.", says Justin Pitts, Director at Blue Diamond Machinery. "We are proud to be able to play a role in supporting these environmental initiatives and contributing to a sustainable future" he says.

The Indonesian government, with PLN, are exploring avenues to replace hundreds of diesel generators across the country. If the trial is successful, PLN will investigate transitioning to hydrogen power solutions like the GEH2 as a key initiative to support their net zero targets.
