They’re designed to run for extended periods of time, in some cases 24/7. On the other hand, standby generators are specifically designed as a backup power source for equipment and vital operations in the case of a power outage. Particularly with emergency services, agricultural and event operations. They tend to only run for a few hours until mains power is restored. If paired with an ATS switch, the generator will disconnect once power is back online.
